prestigious
line of Honor Goldens, they had the groundwork already in place to be
successful in Service and Therapy Dog work.
From an idea inspired by her association
with President Gerald and Mrs. Betty Ford, Ann took the emotional and
physical response of a handicapped
little girl to a golden retriever, and parlayed it into a viable mode
of therapy for emotionally and physically traumatized children and adults.
Ann organized the first Pet Facilitated Therapy seminar in Oakland California
in the early 70’s and a special day was designated for the city
of San Francisco by Mayor Diane Feinstein. 4-H Drill Teams were trained
for personal appearances, thrilling the children in special ed schools.
Soon thereafter, specially trained goldens were placed in the San Mateo
Special Ed school system

making
changes in students that the teachers and school principals had never
witnessed before. Therapy dogs were then further used in the after
school special ed programs such as Project Reach and Aldea, Inc, in
Napa, California.
Today Noah’s Ark therapy dogs are working throughout the United
States in alzheimer’s units, children’s cancer camps, rest
homes, with autistic children, teams for Crisis Response (first on the
scene of national disasters), and placements through Make A Wish Foundation,
to name just a few venues. Honor Therapy and Assistance Crisis Response Dogs are
still in the Hurricane Katrina area and minister on a regular basis
to such organizations as Parents Of Murdered Children, TAPS (recovery
after
9/11, the Pentagon and those lost in military action), as well as countless
other national groups, schools, veterans hospitals and individuals.
Since those early years of 1970 on, Honor Therapy and Assistance Dogs Inc. has
trained and placed multitudes of puppies and adults to serve special
needs. Therapy placements
and continued growth can only come through the generosity of the general
public or the support of corporate giving by businesses.
Won’t
you help expand and continue this wonderful work by giving your best
and letting others know as well?
